2003 ARRL Field Day

07/14/2003 | W8ZPF The W8ZPF CRES Amateur Radio Group, based in Columbus, Ohio enjoyed their 2003 Field Day activities at a new location this year. Our gracious hosts, Mike, NV7X, and wife, Viodelda, volunteered their back yard and porch for our efforts. Installing our two multi-band, wire, inverted V antennas in an unfamiliar location required some spur-of-the-moment engineering, a good throwing arm, and Dave, K8RSP's sling shot. Jim, W8KJ, loaned us his reliable generator to power our two classic, 100W rigs. The grilled brats and burgers, accompanied with covered-dish sides and desserts, made Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch culinary treats. Eighteen club members and four vistors participated. Central Ohio weather cooperated, giving two beautiful sunny days and a clear night between. Our SSB station operated from Mike's garage and CW / PSK31 station from Viodelda's front porch. Other than some SSB / CW station interference due to proximity of the 80 meter antenna legs, a condition which will be remedied next year, everything went smoothly. Thanks to all the operators who answered our call. 73 de W8ZPF -- K8ON
