2003 ARRL Field Day

07/20/2003 | KN6OX The Cosumnes River BBQ and Mooing Cow Society operated KN6OX 2A SV from my family's barn located near Latrobe, El Dorado County California.

The following were ether operators or assisted in the setup or take down; KN6OX, K6RC, K6GV, K6PG, KN6UV, WB6AOK, WB6OVH, KB6DSA, N6SNO, KG6PON, KG6EOT, N6DW, WV6J and KE6DWI. I am sorry if I left anyone out.

Frank N6SNO took time out from operating to do a great BBQ, which included ribs, tri-tip and chicken covered with his special sauce.

Frank also came up with this year's name when he complained about the mooing cows.

This year the stations were ICOM 765's paired with a Collins 30L1 and a Heathkit SB200. We did this to give us a little extra kick. The logging was done with networked laptops running WriteLog. A stand-alone ICOM 706 MarkIIG was used for the VHF/UHF station on 6 meters.

Using the amps cut our score down, but add lots of fun with the pile-ups and high QSO count.

The antennas were a 4 element 20 meter mono bander at 40 feet, a 4 element 15 meter mono bander, a 2 element 40 meter inverted V wire beam and a dipole at 40 feet for 80 meters.

We endured the 100+ tempter by using a very strict hydration program to consume lots of fluids and beverages. -- KN6OX
