2003 ARRL Field Day
Approximately 700 museum visitors passed through our operating area and by our P.I.O. booth. Approximately 150 people were briefed at our P.I.O. Booth.
Amateur Radio Public Relations was the stated primary goal of our Field Day 2003 operation with QSOs/Score as a secondary goal.
We had a 'clean sweep' of coverage in the "Ventura Co. Star", including a substantial article with a color picture + black and white picture on Page B-1. VCARS was mentioned numerous times in local radio and printed media during the weeks before Field Day. VCARS was presented with an "Amateur Radio Week" Proclamation by the City of Thousand Oaks (CA)during a City Council meeting; the Mayor of the City of Simi Valley (CA) presented the club with one also.
Approximately 600 QSOs were achieved with an 8-A entry. The 20 meter SSB station was located at the P.I.O. Booth for maximum public visibility of a busy band. At various times, bands 80 meters through 70 centimeters were utilized. Eleven 15 meter QSOs were made with solar cells as the power source. APRS was also demonstrated. Approximately 47 U.S. States and most Canadian Provinces were worked and several DX stations were worked, including the CO0 Field day operation.
