2003 ARRL Field Day

07/21/2003 | VE3FAL Another great field day. Dave (VE3AVS) and myself set ourselves up in my tent trailer, and operated 2B ON for field day.
We used an FT817 and OHR HP 1.5 watt rig on 40, and the 817 for 80,20 and 15 meters running 2.5 watts, using all battery power.
We used dipoles for antennas, and even used my HYGAIN tapetenna for 80. We managed to rack up 162 q's and finished with a score of 1820 after bonus points, not a bad run for 20 hours using QRP in some very QRO band segments.
We stuck solely to cw and, and just kept pounding away putting our call in when we could.
Next year, we will try and break the 2000 point mark, but each year we keep improving.
Thanks to all who pulled our QRP signals out, shows we have some very good operators who have good ears.
I think the most annoying thing was, hearing stations calling cq, stopping, plugging in our call, and when we stopped, they were again calling cq as if they never even listened to see if someone was in there. Found lots of this going on , and mostly on 20 meters. Listening is just as important as calling.
Anyway, see you all next year. -- VE3FAL
