2003 ARRL Field Day

12/13/2003 | WA7DEM The Snohomish County RACES group set up a field day operation at the Snohomish County Dept. of Emergency Management (DEM) in Everett WA. The office is immediately attached to the south end of Paine Field, the county airport which is also where the Boeing factory located. They build the 747, 767 and 777 aircraft and fly them out from here. We had 5 stations trying to make contacts with poor band conditions. The local Search and Rescue team brought their food canteen truck and helped prepare meals including a great biscuits and gravy breakfast. We had a great time with lots of drop ins including local officials and ARRL section managers. Note the flag pole that helped support dipoles and our communications van. The highlight of the operation for us, was to take our com van out on the apron and connect a wire to a B-52 bomber that is parked there. We tuned it up on 80 meters and made one contact before disconnecting. We sent a note to the person in Oregon that we made contact with, but I don't think he believed us. We had lots of witness's including people from the ARRL that it did in fact work. This would be almost equivilent to the guys in the midwest who tuned up a bridge. -- KC7OO
