2003 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/17/2003 | N0KIS About all we can say is that conditions were less than ideal here in Nebraska.... We made an attempt at our first contest from the new University of Nebraska club station..... Things did'nt turn out as we would have liked.... We did have a good time trying out the new equipment and hope for better conditions in the next contest...

6-meters was really dead, one really short opening to the east for about 5-min. ..... The only saving grace was our performance on 2-meters, we did have pretty good luck with stations out to about 500 miles from Lincoln but there wasnt enough stations on to raise our score....

We used a stacked array on 2-meters and a three element beam on 6-meters..... The University club station is located on the fourth floor of the Journalism College which provides an antenna elevation of about 75 feet above ground with nice short coax runs ....

The rigs used were an Icom 736 on 6-meters and an Icom 746 on 2-meters..... We had a Kenwood 707 on 70cm but it was FM only ....

The weather was great, but again the conditions were not what we hoped for with our first contest from the new club station ..... 73's -- WD0BGZ
