2003 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/17/2003 | KC2LSU This was my first contest, since getting my ticket three months ago. I was amazed at what just 10 watts from my Icom 706 MKIIG powered with a St Louis Switcher (modified PC power supply) can do going into a high gain antenna. Look at that "piece of junk" direct fed Yagi I was using; it's a full time job just keeping the #6 ground wire elements, straight & centered, when the antenna is not up on my "tower". (due to deed restrictions, it has to look au-natural, and I hide it when not in use)

Look at it, a $6 antenna, that lets me work stations 200 miles away! I even found the plans for it on the internet at http://www.fredspinner.com/W0FMS/CheapYagi/vjbcy.html "Cheap Yagi Antennas for VHF/UHF" (a big thank you to the author, Kent Britain, WA5VJB!!!!!)
