2003 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/19/2003 | WA7JTM Operated portable from DM34 at 7000+/- ft. Wx was warm, and the biting bugs were fierce. Spent a fortune on insect repellant. Still had a good time camping out with the dogs and playing Radio for the weekend.

Other than a short 6M opening to Texas, no real propagation to speak of. The higher bands were pretty good, especially with all of the Rovers running up and down the Az to Cal line. Conditions into Southern Cal seemed pretty good. New Mexico was non-existant except for K5AM. It was a thrill to finially work California on 1296, a first for me from this location.

This is the highest score ever for me in a September contest. Hope to do it again next year with some help from a few friends. This single-op stuff is too much work!.......73 all.....Pete -- WA7JTM
