2003 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/20/2003 | KQ6EE KQ6EE was at the top of Thunder Mountain. On Saturday, I packed all my equipements to my backpack, and drived up to Manker Flat (5000+ft)above Glendora in Southern California. From Manker Flat, I hiked up Baldy Notch then to Thunder Mountain(8000+ft). I brought my Yaesu Ft817, Icom 4 bander HT, Alinco 220 HT, mag-mout and dual band beam antenna. I arrived about 10.30 o'clock and hiked down about 5. o'clock. On Sunday, I didn't do much hiking. I rode the ski lift from Manker Flat to Baldy Notch, then hike up to Thunder Mountain. I did very good in this contest because I had an elevation gain. That's what I like to do QRP at the top of the mountain. I got away from the smog, enjoy hiking, and play with radio. May be next contest, I will hiked up to Mt Baden Powell (9000+ft) or Mt Baldy(10000ft). Fun Fun Fun for all contest. 73 -- KQ6EE
