12/15/2003 | W8JWN Very unusual conditions to say the least! Only four stations worked on Friday night. I started Saturday morning earlier than last year to be ready for the European opening...it never came! Actually, I only worked one station, a CT, the whole contest. I never heard anyone from Europe, or Asia during the contest. It was disappointing to see my final score, compared to last year, in the little box in the Log Entry window! I made only 348 contacts this year compared to 796 in 2002! Operating from the northern latitudes, 45 degrees here in the U.P., is tough!!!

Has there been any thought to having a 15 meter contest to replace this contest during the down cycle?

Still, I look forward to this weekend every year. I especially like the down time. It makes the XYL happy! -- W8JWN
