2003 ARRL 10 Meter Contest

12/15/2003 | W1JCJ Thanks to all for working me this weekend.... had a lot of fun in my second ever contest effort, CW low power.

Last month after dabbling in the CW SS I thought I would put up a dedicated 10M wire array for this contest. Intrigued by the design and simplicity of the Sturba curtain array, my goal was to put up a pair at 90 deg angles. But work and weather got in the way of constuction and in the end, at the last minute, I nailed together a pair of phased EDZ's built from plans in the ARRL Wire antenna classics book. It was very cool to test out where I could work in comparison with a basic oversized Zepp.

OK, my contesting effort wasnt much of an effort but I managed to hit 40 states, 4 canadian provinces and about 30 countries. Conditions sucked wind on Friday night. Saturday was good...lots of EA's, F's, DLs and Gs. Tons and tons of NM, TX, AZ and CA on Sunday. And all weekend long zillions of LU's and PYs. That band opens closes and changes so very much over the course of a few minutes to say nothing of hours. If only I had a rotatable antenna...........
