01/04/2004 | W1TS Once again a GREAT way to end the old year and usher in the new with Ham Radio! This is my annual ritual of bringing out my ORIGINAL Heathkit AT-1 and getting it operational for SKN! This year I even changed out the electrolytics in the power supply even thought the note was still hum free. Nice to hear all the activity up and down the bands when CW is said to be a dying mode. It was especially appropriate to have been able to work W1AW as my first QSO for 2004, where the original holder of my call, Don Mix, worked for many years! I am proud to have his call and keep it active as I'm sure he would have liked. Some ops referred to this as "Silent Key Night", and who knows, with all these re-issued calls out there , maybe it just is! -- W1TS
