06/28/2004 | K0RFD Ahh, Field Day. The perfect excuse for a camping trip with the XYL! And what better way to accomplish that than Class 1B, single op?

The camping trip was great. The contest? Eh, didn't make near enough contacts. Had to shut down a couple of times for typical Colorado summer/mountain T-storms. Great campsite, lousy radio site -- down in a bowl but out of the wind and the lightning. Grand Mesa National Forest near Grand Junction, CO. GPS said 10,231 feet. So did our aging hearts and lungs.

It was everything I hoped for and more. Mosquitos the size of quarters, but the deep-cycle battery lasted noon-to-noon.
