2004 ARRL Field Day

06/30/2004 | W2GSB GREAT SOUTH BAY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE NEW "CLASS F" CATEGORY AND OPERATES AT TOWN OF BABYLON EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTERS (EOC)

Being my last stop on Sunday of 2004 FD weekend, I was too late to see this long standing group in action. They were in the knock down mode and I helped load the truck.

It was refreshing to see at least one group in New York-Long Island Section taking the unique opportunity of working with their affiliated EOC. Also while doing so they racked up extra points toward their FD score too boot. This was a perfect opportunity for the club to keep the capabilities of their amateur radio resource fresh in the mind of the Town's Emergency Services staff. In the long run, this will promote a better working relationship with one of the most important served agency ham radio operators could be called upon to support. No better way to improve their perception of us than to demonstrate our skills to them as frequently as you are able.

Although I my arrival was so late, all was not lost. A repeater problem that had been plaguing the club's 2 meter system for a long time was addressed. After a quick analysis it seems to have been resolved. No better way to end a Field Day with the smile of success on our all our faces.
