07/01/2004 | WA2GUG This year the guys of RECWA really pulled together. Two more of our members came through and the Queens EC got to do his first field day [we are all ARES members]. We stayed with the battery power; but this time each HF radio and the packet/APRS station had their own 80 ahr battery. We kept two additional batteries on charge during the day with solar panels just in case.

The antenna system was improved with the addition of a G5. This was positioned 180 degrees out from the 20 and 40 meter dipoles. This antenna came through when 80 meters opened up at about 2am.

As we did last year we improved and we came up with some more improvements for next year and can't wait to try them. Oh the food was great thanks to N2NSA who supplied 1/2 a cow. The crew WA2GUG, KB2QLE, KC2IXE, and N2NSA and son Mike [who did the packet messaging]. -- WA2GUG
