2004 ARRL Field Day
Despite some tricky moments such as our 40 meter beam falling into a tree the antennas were up shortly after 1800 UTC and we were on the way. Good food, laughs and a kinship not only amongst ourselves but with those stations we contacted, was the order of the day. We were proud to see that many of our new hams who do not have HF privileges were so enthusiastic about radio and we hope that soon we'll see them at a VE session upgrading.
Of course Murphy paid us a visit. Besides the antenna falling into a tree there was a small mis-understanding as to the length of our event with the local police department. We explained to an officer who had told us to shut down, because it was after dark and the park was closed on Saturday. Well we explained to the officer that we had gotten permission weeks in advance and that our permit allowed us to stay. At some point Emily AC2V reminded the officer that she was a taxpayer and there for he was working for us. With that the next thing out of her mouth to the officer was " YOU"RE FIRED".
Well despite that we did prove we were allowed to stay and were able to continue our Field Day event. We hope that Emily AC2V will be on parole during next year's event so she can join us. Thank you to those who participated and look forward to seeing or hearing you folks next year. 73 -- W2CZ
