2004 ARRL Field Day
at Carters Lake, Oakman, GA. With wife Sue and grandchildren
Samantha and Russell we camped Friday and Saturday nights.
Warren WD4NIT also helped the WB4MZO Wedixie ARC operate from
the day-use picnic area at the Dam. The dam and campground
are about three miles apart by water, much farther by road.
I used my pickup battery for power at my 1B site. I found
that frequent engine operation was needed to maintain enough
voltage for transmitting even though lower voltage was sufficient for receiving. I made 10 contacts Saturday evening and
Sunday morning, about the same number I logged for another
operator for the Club on Saturday afternoon, in their multi-
operator session. In spite of my offer to allow Sue,
Samantha, or Russell to speak at my mike -- they all declined.
They did help with antenna erection and cooking though. But
their main interest was fishing. It was a pleasant time of
good fellowship with both my family and my club, even though
my personal score was on the low side.

Correction October 31. My class was changed to 1A because of the
above help with antenna setup and cooking by three additional
participants. Guess I will have to come up with a good group
name for next year!!! Best wishes to all. Warren -- WD4NIT
