2002 ARRL International DX Contest (Phone)

03/03/2002 | K0FJ The PLAN was for two of us to drive to WO's 160 miles east to be part of a multiop at that newish, competitive QTH. However our Murphy escapade occurred before the contest, as a blizzard tore through northern Kansas during Friday.

Plan B was an operation from KJ's city-lot QTH with the SB-220 throttled back to 500 W to appease the neighbors, except for some of those "nice" multiplier pileups..... The PLUS at Mike's QTH is DX Telnet/DX4Windows, which is a great virtual mult. station. And in the early and mid stages of the contest, you can actually achieve run rates by clicking on bandmap spots.

Condx were about as good as for the cw contest so this weekend was a treat. Still, alot of Sunday was relatively slow going, as ANY new spots, especially rare ones, were immediately inundated with a feeding frenzy of cluster jockeys just like us (except most of them were NOT from the infamous RF BLACK HOLE...). Old fashioned S&Ping with the VFO and keyboard (how quaint...) was still the order of the day at times. 1342 Qs, 1.32M points and 330 mults, including weekend DXCC+ on 10M. -- K0FJ K0BJ KC0JAO
