2005 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/11/2005 | W2LJ SKN 2005 was a great time! I pulled out my old Western Electric J-38 key and went to town! I only had three QSOs on New Year's Eve proper; but they were all very enjoyable and entertaining ragchews. I especially enjoyed my QSO with Bob WB8QLA in Ohio. Bob is 82 years old and his fist was sweet, sweet music to my ears! It seems I had a pipeline into Ohio; and I had two more outstanding QSOs with other Ohioans that night.

I used SKN to be my springboard into the NAQCC's "QSO a Day" award for 2005. I'm found both SKN and the NAQCC award to be a great incentive for making a CW QRP QSO each day in 2005. All I can say is, thanks ARRL for sponsoring such a great event. It was wonderful for my ears - both 80 and 40 Meters were wall to wall signals! Just like the old days! The operating was leisurely, and fun - what more could you ask for? -- W2LJ
