04/18/2002 | WB1GQR 1. After some tre`mendous hours on 10 and 20 meters, at 0030 the yagi went dead forcing a early QSY and slow hours on 80 meters. I elected to go for a lovely tower climb at 4:30 AM. I bathed the tower in 1000 watts of work lights - wiping out the meteor shower show for the neighbors who were up! On the tower the smell of a burnt insulator permeated the air telling me that the connector arced and turned into a 200 ohm resistor! After years at this, it's good to see that Murphy is still with us. 2. I tried a new category - Unlimited. It was pretty useless. I still had to go out and find my own VY1! 3. It is so frustrating when the bands are in such great shape but the contacts are simply not there probably because everyone is all over calling CQ. 4. I hate to say this, but after the ratty Sunday rates the last few years, I can't wait for the sunspots to drop to get some better scores! -- WB1GQR
