07/24/2005 | W4DEX This was our 5th year operating field day as it should be in a field. We operated 1B and kept the radio going during the entire contest. The hand cranked generator was used to power an FT-817 through a capacitor bank to make some 6 meter contacts when it opened. Our antenna was a multiband wire dipole fed with ladder line. Thanks to Dex we had for the second year a shower which is real nice after a humid summer day to wash off and cool off. The view from the shower was the six meter beam which was kind of odd. We had a good time and made a decent amount of contacts so we'll be there again next year. Our main rig was a Ten Tec 580 Delta w/t a homemade antenna tuner. The generator was used during most of the contest so we would have a fan but ran at night with the battery. -- KD4RLD
