09/21/2005 | N3AWS I missed the contest as I had to shelter at the Keesler AFB Hospital as essential personnel for Hurricane Katrina. The hospital took a major, major hit with extensive flooding, loss of power, etc. My house is uninhabitable although my ham gear almost all survived.

Hams here got a lot of good publicity as the first news coming out of the area was largely from hams in the shelters. I didn't have any equipment with me in the shelter, but wish I had. We did have a satellite radio which was our major source of news after the storm.

I plan to be back in June.
