2006 ARRL RTTY Roundup

01/09/2006 | KN3A This weekend was my first RTTY Roundup. There is no way to describe the enjoyment I got out of this. It was wall to wall RTTY signals and 15 meters was even open both days. I had one 10 meter QSO to AD6WL, but no other signals were heard. I only have a G5RV about 15 ft. off the ground and my biggest thrill was working ZL4BR on 40 meters about 2:00 a.m. (local time). If you saw the antenna setup you'd realize why I set a goal of only 150 qso's, which was far exceeded several hours into the contest. I don't know why, but of the 4 states I didn't work, three of them are within just a couple hundred miles from me (DE, DC, WV) and ND. I found WY a couple of hours before the end of the contest - thanks to WG7Y who came through for me. From 4:30 until 6:30 I was QRT because the Steelers game was on. I did sneak back into the shack at halftime and worked the last 30 minutes of the test on a very very busy 40 meters. The contest was a success and the Steelers came through for me. Big thanks to the N3FJP RTTY software and the K7RE RTTY engine...they worked great.

Thanks for all the fun. Look for you next contest with my new call - WY3X (my original FCC issued extra call from 1993, which should be issued this week.
