06/27/2006 | W5IRP A few photos of the Lufkin, TX Field Day efforts. Along with the FD fun, the City Mayor proclaimed this week as Amateur Radio Recognition Week in the city, and the local television station, KTRE, did a nice story on one of our recent Ham Radio graduates, Justin Craig, KE5JEL. He was just licensed as a result of Ham Radio classes being taught by one of our members, Jerry Wilson, K5JLW. Justin is not only new to Ham Radio, he is only eleven years old and he got a great introduction to Ham Radio during our Field Day.
Field Day was again sponsored by the Deep East Texas ARC, Inc. in Lufkin, Texas along with Angelina County ARES, STX District 2. Station W5IRP operated 3F from the Lufkin office of the American Red Cross.
Our ARES PIO, Jeanie Miles-KE5CKM, has done an outstanding job with coordinating media coverage for the FD activities, Ham Radio classes and with coordinating the Mayor's proclamation.
