07/23/2006 | N5R Many have wanted to run away and join the circus, some others always wanted to ride the rails. For those of us that took part in Field Day 2006 got to do both. For the second year in a row the Dr. X's Stone Knives and Bear Skins group ( a conglomeration of numerous clubs, groups friends and associates) worked field day while operating RailRoad mobile on the Texas State Railroad. With the help of ICOM America, and the Texas State Railroad 2C Operations were possible from a refurbished MKT Steel caboose being taken round trip once a day from Rusk Texas to Palestine Texas. Numerous operators got to make the trip in the caboose and try their hand at making FieldDay contacts. The circus, well not only were stations setup on the caboose, but we had a additional stations at the Rusk Terminal, Rusk Dining Hall, and the Palestine Terminal 45 miles away.
