11/10/2006 | KA2FHN WOW!! I had a blast on my first ever Field Day! As I'm new to HF I've only had my station on the air just shy of 3-4 weeks when I got to participate in this great contest I've only heard about in the past.
While i've had my Call for over 25 years my interest was VHF,and boy am I glad I gave HF a try. I quickly read the rules on the ARRL site and decieded to give it a try as a 1D. Due to family responsiblities and evening work hours I still managed to eek out 48 points total. I even got up the next morning and operated a few hours before church time.
My total time in the contest was 1 1/2 hours but it set the fire burning for next year. I really got to experance the range and limits of my equipment and operating skills. Just what Field Day should be. -- KA2FHN
