2006 ARRL August UHF Contest

08/08/2006 | K4BNC I turned on the 432 rig on Saturday afternoon with the intention of giving out some points to the regular participants. In fact, I did make a few contacts then.
However I feel that the method of operating used by the serious contesters in the event serves to discourage the making of contacts with the more casual operator. Every time I heard a new station come on the band they were immediately hustled off to other bands before there was an opportunity to contact them. I recognize that making contacts across as many bands as possible is essential to a high score and that higher band contacts are worth more. However I think it would pay off for these operators to listen for others at least a bit before changing bands; it would also encourage more participation from those with a limited number of bands.
