11/10/2006 | KE0Z A comment South Dakota contest operators sometimes hear is, "I wish you were in North Dakota." This year I decided to make the wish come true by loading up an IC-706, a Butternut vertical with an 18 radial ground system, a notebook computer and going portable to the closest town to the geographic center point of North Dakota, McClusky.
It was the height of bird hunting season and the motel where I stayed was full of hunters and their dogs. The sound of CW would cause the dogs next door to start howling so I had to use headphones the whole time.
It was really a lot of fun and I was happy to help SS operators get their ND multiplier. I am seriously considering doing it again next year. -- KE0Z
