2006 ARRL November Sweepstakes (CW)

11/14/2006 | KB9BIT I never participate in the November SS for the points since I don't really have the skill or patience to hang in there for long periods; I'm only interested in trying for a clean sweep each year. In the past ten years I have only participated in the phone portion but this was my first time trying the CW Sweeps, even though I'm 99% a CW op.

I was only planning on messing around this year, seeing how many sections I could work and started out by working for about 6 hours, getting a late start Saturday night. I was at the Notre Dame football game when the contest started so I didn't get on the air until about 0300. Got started again Sunday morning about 8:30am local time and began to really pick off the needed sections. The thought of getting a clean sweep didn't really seem possible until late afternoon Sunday when somehow I managed to work NT, PAC and AK within a period of an hour. After this I only needed NE and SB which I ended up getting by 2200 UT.

At this point I had worked 80 sections and had 80 QSOs. I decided to just try to make 100 QSOs total before the contest ended and ended up with exactly 100 QSOs and my clean sweep.

I didn't compete on points, but I had fun and that's all that counts. I am looking forward to the SSB Sweeps this weekend. -- KB9BIT
