11/20/2006 | W8SH This years Phone Sweepstakes effort from the Michigan State University club station was a big success. With a clean sweep es over 700 QSO's in the log , I believe we are going to place well in the school category. I know we all had fun, es some of the newer hams gained some valuable experience es operating savvy. Saterday evening was great fun, with Dr. Shanblatt providing pizza for the trenchermen. It seemed as though we were NEVER going to get Nebraska, Manitoba,es PAC. However, late afternoon on Sunday, David KD8BXT sat down to operate, es just like magic, he worked 2 Nebraskas's es the MB section ! Then just as 20 meters was closing, Dr. Shanblatt nabbed Hawaii for the clean sweep. Everyone in the shack jumped fer joy! My own personal highlight was working W1AW. There was a pileup 2 kcs wide of ops trying to work them. I called several times but NO GO. finally in desperation i used an ol' contesters trick, I disguised my voice as a YL, es they came right back to us! everybody in the shack busted out laughing!
