2006 ARRL 10 Meter Contest

12/12/2006 | NU4SC K3IXD and W4MEL at W4MEL's QTH using the Low Country Contest Club Call NU4SC.

CW 121 QSOs 484 Points 43 Multipliers

Phone 223 QSOs 446 Points 58 Multipliers

Total 344 QSOs 930 Points 101 Multipliers

Claimed Score : 93,930

W4MEL operated CW and K3IXD operated phone. Several times we went an hour or so on phone without a QSO. Once we went 50 minutes w/o a QSO only to be called by a ZL2 and three minutes later by a ZL4. Thank goodness for N1MM Logger wav files and the automatic repeat function. Later a ZS2 answered our phone CQ. As others reported, no EU, JA, nor VK heard nor worked on either mode.

We read a lot about the 160m spot light, well the 10m spotlight this weekend moved around; suddenly a lot of IA stations, then AZ, then CA, followed by WA, some OH, and finally VE3s before the band closed.

We got off to a slow start due to problems setting all the parameters
correctly in N1MM Logger. By Saturday afternoon, we had everything working. But occasionally either the computer or the Orion transceiver would hang requiring a shut down and restart to clear the problem.

This year we didn't make any antenna changes. Probably the only thing that would have helped would have been to raise the antenna from 45 feet to 200 feet.

We were glad to hand out SC on both CW and phone. The log has been uploaded to LOTW.

73 -- K3IXD
