2006 ARRL International EME Competition

12/22/2006 | VK3UM Living in the Southern hemisphere we have very limited Eu windows given the weekends chosen. As a consequence we have to work under longer periods of ground noise to make our QSO's. Although this has always been the case, I would like to make the point again that I prefer 2 weekends for the Contest to allow (even then), for a couple of hours operating in Eu.

Assisted CW section should be abandoned. It was never needed before the entry of the Digital Section who required such a dispensation to enter the Competition as well as the rule change (assisted)

CW and Digital modes should be separate contest sections and not combined.
There has already been a deliberate trend to maximize multipliers by the selective combination of Digital and CW. This has now destroyed true competition and if not corrected will see the end of CW entries in preference to other International Contests.

Combined or mixed mode sections (CW Digital) should not be permitted. It is a totally unfair combination that has not provided true value for effort. Some have already used it to unfairly maximize their scores.

Unassisted Digital Section should be abandoned as it is impossible to police. Those claiming entry under this Section can readily view the Loggers etc and receive considerable advantage without detection (this has been clearly evident from comments on loggers and reflectors)

Best wishes

73 Doug -- VK3UM
