2007 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/02/2007 | K2TV Great Fun! I took an old Heathkit DX60B that I found when cleaning out the garage and put it on the work bench. I found some old WW2 surplus XTALS in my junk box and with very little cleaning up it all worked perfectly. Years ago I gave my Brother-in-Law (now NS4I) my old straight key from my 1960's novice days. He used it and then put it in his garage for storage. On my last visit to Florida he gave it back to me... Wow! Perfect for SKN.
SKN was like going back to my novice days, with lots of rag chewing and chatting with others about our start in ham radio. Some of the contacts were quite long. The amount of activity exceeded my expectations this year. The bands were packed with SKN stations and it really was nice to hear.
CW is alive and well and if everyone who operated SKN made an effort to teach some newcomers CW, it will stay alive for many more years to come. -- K2TV
