2007 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/02/2007 | N8XMS I had a lot of fun making 12 SKN contacts, all on 40 meters. I used an antique strap key that was made by the School of Engineering at the University of Michigan, probably between 1910 and 1920. It has both make and break contacts and makes a wonderfully musical clickity-clack sound during use. Even though the key has no adjustments, it has a very good feel and is easy to use. Im a proud graduate of the University of Michigan (even though we just lost another Rose Bowl!), and so owning and using this key is extra special for me.

There were a lot of good sounding fists but my vote for best one goes to K0IVK.

One of my most interesting contacts was with WE0Q. We discovered that our original 1970 Novice tickets must have been issued within a couple of weeks of each other. Mine was WN0BJC and his was WN0BJP!

By the way, if you enjoyed SKN, consider joining SKCC for year round straight key fun. Im #957.
