01/03/2007 | K5UBS This was my second SKN and was better than last year. It was clear to me that there were more on the air this time. I had a couple comment to me that it might have something to do with the FCC dropping the code requirment! Could be! Last year I used my IC746Pro (I doubted the success of QRP, sorry guys). This year I used my Elecraft K2, but set it at 10 watts giving me a 3db gain over the QRP max of 5w. My key was an old Western Union key from the Dallas Wire and Repeater room where I worked for 28.5 years. Its OLD. All I worked had good fists, WOW. Most enjoyed QSO was with W5XW, Bob. His rig was a 5watt single 6V6 in a cigar box. It sounded great. The CW note was clear, good tone qualities and no clicks. Next year I hope to have my AT1 active.
SKN has given me more confidance in my CW ability. New Year reselution...Make at least one cw ctx each day this year
