2007 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/06/2007 | N7EF Spent first couple hours on 40 meters. QSOs and callers were wall-to-wall with fierce QRM, reminiscent of the novice band days of the 1970s when first licensed, with an almost eerie Twilight_Zone feel. Even with modern equipment DSP and narrow filtering, it was difficult at times to copy clearly. A couple of boat anchors even came drifting through the passband! Really hard to get a QSO in edgewise, even more crowded than Field Day or Sweepstakes at times. Made a few QSOs with the new SKCC Club Key by LTA straight out of the box, brand new with the factory default settings for all the adjustments; we went with it live on the air from the start --questionable decision but hey, we were having some serious FUN!! -- N7EF
