2007 ARRL Straight Key Night
I decided to use my old novice station, and set up in a friend of the family's one room log cabin.
My transmitter consisted of a homebrew, crystal controlled 6L6 oscillator running about 5 watts output on 40 meters. The receiver is a Heathkit "Comanche". I used a homebrew L-match antenna tuner to feed a random wire antenna strung up in the trees. And finally, I used my Nye "Speed-X" straight key that I had bought back when I was a Novice class operator.
I worked about a dozen stations in the 24 hour period, and Oh' how the memories came flooding back!!!
The most notable QSO was with WA2GFB, Harv, in PA. And the farthest "DX" was with N7IE, Bill, in Layton Utah. I lost him in the QRM from the digital stations. The best "fist" that I heard was NJ8BB.
I can hardly wait until next years' SKN!!
