I always found New Year's Eve quite boring...until I found out about SKN! I managed to put together a "key" to use with my K2. Basically a plastic ruler, foam insulation, two pennies, and aluminum foil duct-taped to an old CD-ROM drive. How's that for desperation? I fought the urge to hook up my new Begali paddles and discovered I actually enjoyed sending with a straight key. Go figure.
From my QTH and running low power to a low dipole, conditions weren't too hot, but I did manage to make nine QSOs including a fellow QRPer and a guy running all tubes. Heard lots of good fists and chirpy transmitters which were very cool.
This was my first SKN and I will definitely be active next year. -- KA2P
