This was my first contest ever, i was not prepared at all as it was cold and i did not have any antenna's setup at my QTH for SSB, but after hearing from hams on the local repeater that there was a VHF contest going on, i took out my yeasu FT-897d and it had the internal battery charged, set it up in the back yard and took out the buddipole and set it up 18 feet high as a 2 meter dipole, and to my surprise the 2m ssb was alive, went inside got a cup of coffee and then managed to work the following order : N3NGE, W2KV, K2DLS, KC2PVM on 5 watts 2 meter ssb.
I froze to death outside but it was worth it :)
It was great, but now i know not to miss the june event and i will be prepared, hope to hear more stations next time around.
