Paul, KI6CQ and Raymond, KI6BKS operated 6m-2m-70cm on Saturday from coastal DM12 this year. Raymond picked out a great but non-obvious spot near Point Loma. On 2m we had an ICOM910, a 350W amp/preamp and a cushcraft 13B2. NA6XX in CM97/San Jose had a great signal -- we spoke several times but were only able to contact one other bay area station -- N9JIM in CM87. There was an EME station around Fresno running 1500W that also gave us a shout -- he was S7-S9. No band openings on 6m for us. On 6m, we learned that 10W and a loop doesn't seem to be enough when the band is dead. 432 was ok... but nothing remarkable. One local heckler wondered aloud if we had all the proper permits for what we were doing.... but other than that we had several friendly encounters with curious locals. Looking forward to the June VHF contest where we hope to be in the high mountains somewhere. -- KI6CQ
