2007 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/12/2007 | N6GKJ WOW!!!

This year was a bit different than I am used to...

First off I want to say thanks to Tom, WA6OSX. He is my life long friend and contest pal through out the years. This time out it was he and I.

6M - had very quick band openings that seemed to close as fast as they arrived, I did manage to squeek out several long distance contacts on 6M, the local activity was marginal.

2M - was hopping along just fine, with contacts into Oregon, Nevada and Southern California.

220 - was about the same as 2M

432 - was a little harder to get long distance contacts, but we did get quite abit of activity locally

927.5 - hey for only having a 15 watt rig, we managed 4 contacts on that band

1296 - was a challenge, as we only ran 1 watt on sideband and 10 watts on FM, we still did ok, several cw QSO's got our score up!!

This year I put together a mobile contest center, I had a few issues with the antenna mounts, ever try to put moe than one rotator on a tower?

but still we had good support from our spouses, the food was plentiful and so was the diet soda. We will be running in the UHF contest, the 10 Ghz contest and the September VHF contest.
We dont know who's call we will be using, but if my girlfriend passes her test next month, it is our tradition to run the new call sign in the contests.

I want to thank each and every one who participated in this event, alot of people dont take the time to realize that had the other brother and sister hams out here not been contesting, we could not do it!! So I want to say thank you to everybody. I have a lot of friends that I hear every contest, and it is always nice to have the courtesy that these people show, it is nice to hear " hey GKJ, did you clear your contact? I want to give that guy a try" it seems that sometimes in the passion for contesting, it turns into a nightmare......I guess that is what makes it a challenge.
