2007 ARRL June VHF Contest
OPERATORS: W3BTX, K4VV, WR3Z, W3IDT, AI4M, W3YOZ
SOAPBOX: With just six operators and 50, 144, 222, and 432 MHz bands
being open simultaneously, for long periods of time the Wopsononock Mountaintop Operators are very happy with their final score. Six meters was fantastic with at least one new grid worked in 25 of the 29 hours that W3SO was on the air. In comparsion, on 2m in 18 of the 29 hours a new grid was logged; on 222 MHz in 17 of the 29 hours a new grid was logged; and on 432 MHz in 20 of the 29 hours a new grid was logged.
AI3M, the principle 432 operator at W3SO and a prior operator at the LM super station K3MQH, said he believes that the 60 grids on 432 are the highest ever for either station. There was a tropo opening from FN00sn (WPA) through TN across the Mississippi river into AR that started around midnight that started with a 2m QSO with AR that lasted half a day with 222 and 432 operators working AL, MS, and TN grids. The 6m and 2m operators also got into the opening, sometimes the 432 operator was the first to work a distant grid and then passed that station down! -- K3IXD
