2007 ARRL Field Day

06/25/2007 | ND6P I was planning on setting up at Griffith Park in Los Angeles again this year but hiking in the park remained closed on Field Day due to the recent fire so I opted to operate from the home station instead.

The antenna I had ready for Griffith Park was made up of a 33 foot telescoping fiberglass mast with a 33 foot cross arm half way up to self support an inverted vee for 20 meters. I also prepared traps with pigtails to convert the antenna to 40 meters. The rig would have been a solar powered Elecraft KX1, running 4 watts.

My plan was to duct tape the mast to this fire hydrant. It sits near the shady side of a large water tank where I would be out of the wind and sun. Oh well. Maybe next year. Had lots of fun working from the home station. Jim, Burbank, CA -- ND6P
