2007 ARRL Field Day

06/30/2007 | W4SCA Scenic City Amateur Radio Society, in its fourth year of organization, participated in Field Day 2007 under the club call, W4SCA. This year, the SCARS team operated 5a-QRP-100% solar powered. Our entire site was powered by a 2kw solar array with 8kw of storage batteries. There was plenty of power for the 10, 15, 20, 40, and 75m stations as well as all of the lighting, fans, computers and accessories! The weather was perfect for a weekend of playing radio.

This year, all the antennas were erected by firing lines over the trees using the P.A.L.S. (Pneumatic Antenna Launching System) which was designed and built by our field day chairman, Monte Brock. The lines were easily launched over the trees with a charge of only 30-40 psi.

Our Field Day site was in the city of Signal Mountain, TN near Chattanooga and is surrounded by tall treesa perfect situation for our wire antennas.

A Field Day chairman has been appointed and planning is already underway for Field Day 2008!
