2008 ARRL International DX Contest (Phone)

03/03/2008 | KB5TX This year's entry into the ARRL Intl DX PH Contest for Kendall Amateur
Radio Society(KARS) KB5TX was especially interesting due to the low
point in the present sunspot cycle. 10 and 15 meter band openings
were especially a surprise. But, it seems that during a contest the
higher frequency bands always open. Must be all the RF in the air !!
KB5TX was on the air for -All Bands- again this year. Lots of fun
for our Club members. First, we want to thank KARS for the support
of Ham-power for the event and the financial support. We also want
to thank ARRL for the top rung sponsorship of this year's event. But,
finally - without the top notch support of all those DX stations on
the air, the DX PH Contest would not have happened. Thanks to ALL...
Contact status for KB5TX: 10mtrs - 53contacts/14countries; 15mtrs -
51contacts/24countries; 20mtrs - 83contacts/41countries; 40mtrs -

contacts. The event was held in K4RMC's backyard Ham-shack Boerne
Texas and we had the following equipment line-up: 10mtrs - TS430S

HAM-Power: David-AA7FW, Richard-K4RMC, Chuck-K5FDG, Stan-KE5NUQ,
Jim-KK5RZ, Don-KM5SY, Rich-N5BBI, Bob-W5XW, Mike-W6WGE, Bill-WC0B,

PH Contest is: The Gaines Garner DX Contest. Gaines is a SK and
organized KARS' first entry into this contest many years ago and it
was held on generator power in Big Bend National Park West Texas.
Thanks again to all who operated in this contest locally and around
the globe. 73 and hope to CU All in next year's contest - Richard W.
