06/21/2008 | KC8KSK I was on vacation with my family in northern Georgia EM74 and I operated QRP portable during the contest. Equipment used was a FT-817 radio, MFJ 903 tuner, P1 portable vertical antenna mounted on a camera tripod for 6, and an AH-510R BNC vertical antenna for 2 and 432. It was almost impossible trying to get through the pileups with a vertical antenna and QRP power on 6 meters. I had a little better luck when I would go up the band as stations would spread out. This was my first venture into the QRP portable category and it was alot of fun. I think if I do QRP again, I'll have more battery capacity available and maybe a portable dipole for 6. 73! -- KC8KSK
