2008 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/22/2008 | KD5IKG/R It was a blast this year!

Even if Murphy's Law struck twice! Last year I was moving from Mississippi to Texas during the Contest, this year I drove back to Mississippi to take my youngest daughter to Bug Camp (www.bugcamp.org) in NE MS!

I had been planning on a family rover with the older daughters roving through east Texas for the contest, but plans changed. I ended up as a single operator limited rover and managed to contest through 15 grids by adding 100 miles on my trip to Bug Camp. We had a great openning at the start in EL39, made new friends, drove 863 miles in 2 days. I ended my contesting early Sunday to be a dad at camp with my daughter at camp! We worked coast to coast on 6 meters while on the move. I heard a lot of "Can we go now" at the start of the trip! We stopped by and met K5QE and saw his station. After that, she decided to work on her ham ticket! We will be popular as a 5 ham family rover next year!

Wow, I could have had a great score if I had had time to stay in each grid to work all the station that could hear me. I settled on driving and giving out points to anyone willing to work me!

Thanks for a great contest! I was a real winner as "DAD" instead of as KD5IKG this year! Look for us Next Contest!

Converted the paper logs to electronic logs, then crashed the data file before submitting, now its too late to bother re-entering them, leason learned!...arg....23,000+ points gone. -- KD5IKG
