2008 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/25/2008 | N My goats and hiked up Mt Herman and worked many 6m QSOs ....6m was
hot! ...worked into FL, MI plus lots of new grids and many line-of-sight QSOs on 2m & 70cm as well very FUN time. Although I forgot my 22' pushup mast I just rested the 2m/70cm beam in a tree and strung up the 6m dipole between a couple of trees. Even worked some 6m CW. This weekend was the most time I've ever spent on 6m and really had fun time. My ft817 internal battery held up pretty good till the end then I dropped power to 2.5, 1w and .5w and I was still making Qs!! 6m is a cool band when it's open. Heard lots of SE coast beacons no W1s? Since that event I decided to add a better antenna I've built a trail friendly version (lightweight) of WB3BEL/Harry's 3-element 6m Hexbeam. WB3BEL/Harry's 3-element 6m Hexbeam

My 6m hexbeam weighs in at 1.5lbs using (6)48" driveway wands from Depot and homebrew lightweight hub. Using my 22' fiberglass push up mast to support it and the 5-element 2m/70cm Elk beam. Hope to see some SE openings during FD.
