2008 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/25/2008 | K9AKS Operated Single Op Portable, QRP, from EN20 in Nebraska. Thanks to KI0PY I was able to gain permission to set up at the Plattsmouth Airport, just south of town, a quiet site with a pretty good view to the east. On the down side, the west wind was very strong on Saturday afternoon, making it difficult to hold the antenna in any direction except straight east or straight west. My arm was very sore by late Sunday. Also, I missed more than two hours Sunday morning because of a very strong and long thunderstorm--I am surprised that the antennas stayed up. Obviously they were not large enough.

On the plus side, six meters was excellent on Saturday evening and most of Sunday. Worked more grids on six than I ever have running QRP, 114. Because six was so good, I did not spend enough time on the other bands, and the numbers there suffered. However, I did work three states in the west on two meter Es. Overall a good weekend. -- K9AKS
