2008 ARRL Field Day

06/29/2008 | WG5F QRP Field Day from Twin Bridges State Park in N.E. Oklahoma. This is the location where the 4SQRP group normally has a combined group activity. All the others that were expected to show up were kept away by the rain storms. Used battery power and a 100' longwire strung through the trees. Had a rotten rain storm Saturday morning that just about took our Pop-up's awning away. Got soaked holding onto it to keep it from wrapping over the top of the trailer Was not able to feel comfortable about raising an antenna until about 3:30PM Saturday due to the lighting in the area before that time. Sigs were good however Worked about 80 stations all together (20 & 40). Had a LOT of different ARRL sections. About 40, so I felt good about the diversity of the QSO's and the performance of the longwire. Both coasts, NE, NW, SE, SW, Canada Most of the QSOs were with an Elecraft K1 @ 5 Watts with the 100 longwire. Made a few SSB QSOs on 40 (with FT-817 and LDG tuner) Sunday morning while waiting for ARRL F.D. message. Copied the ARRL Field day message (on 21 Mhz) Sunday morning and started folding everything up. We'll regroup and do it again next year! 72 -Ed- -- WG5F
